Avenel & Colonia TMJ Treatment
Headache and Orofacial Pain Reduction Techniques
Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (known as TMJ, TMD, or TMJD) is one of the leading causes of:
- Headaches
- Orofacial pain
- Jaw discomfort
- Musculoskeletal pain in the neck and shoulders
- Tooth wear
Dr. Patel is a Dawson trained dentist and uses centric relation occlusion analysis to help diagnose and provide therapy to patients that suffer from TMJ disorders. Symptoms of TMJ problems include:
- Jaw clicking
- Popping
- Locking of the joint
- Muscle stiffness and pain
The Dawson approach to TMJ therapy is focused on the function of the teeth and how it relates to the relationship of the jaw. Doppler auscultation allows Dr. Patel to pinpoint what is happening during TMJ movements, and customize how care should proceed. Ultimately, the jaw is guided into a proper relationship, so it functions the way it was anatomically designed to. This may involve equilibration to bring the teeth into a biting relationship that guides the TMJ and internal disc into the correct position each time it is used.
Fortunately, non-invasive TMJD treatments are considered to be the most successful ways to treat and prevent painful symptoms. Dr. Patel has successfully helped patients manage and treat their TMJ disorders, including those with more severe symptoms. We invite you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Patel to discuss our TMJ treatment options, so she can help reverse your pain or discomfort and assist you in getting your life back.
